Greater Manchester Police Celebrates the Winners of the John Egerton Trophy
Three incredibly courageous colleagues are Greater Manchester Police’s nominees for the National Police Bravery Awards and the winners of the annual John Egerton Trophy.
In October 2023, PC Colin Harrison, PC Joseph Dearnaley and PC Nicholas Leach risked their lives to rescue a woman from freezing waters at Salford Quays.
Their quick thinking and selfless actions saved her life.
They will now travel to London in July to represent the force at the prestigious National Police Bravery Awards.
Mike Peake, Chair of Greater Manchester Police Federation, said: “This incident shows how our incredible officers in Manchester are much more than crime fighters. Every day our colleagues run towards danger such as this to save lives and keep people safe.
“We are incredibly proud of the dedication and courage of Colin, Joseph and Nicholas and they are incredibly deserving winners of the John Egerton Trophy. We look forward to celebrating them in London later this year and we know the whole force is behind them.
Greater Manchester PC John Egerton was murdered on duty in Bolton 1982. His memory lives on within Greater Manchester Police with the John Egerton Trophy — an annual bravery award which is given out to serving officers each year in his honour.
